Walkabout (Alt)

Travel via Subaru or Harley Davidson isn't an exclusive thing for me. There are times when I find myself in some other sort of transportation - although, it still remains true that I'm more comfortable driving than being a passenger. On this day, it was a Honda Civic that provided the transportation for the walkabout. And part of that walkabout included some time spent waiting. The waiting isn't a big skill for me, so I had to occupy my time and playing with my camera is the usual result. As a photographic exercise, I try to figure out what can be captured from the confines of that space. Two photographs resulted from the 15 minutes I spent in captivity. One was posted earlier and the second, posted here, was captured just a few minutes later. For photographers, this is a pretty good way to challenge yourself. Give it a try!

This was taken with the Pentax K-5 set at 1/6 second, ISO 80, and f8. The lens was my only non-Pentax glass, a 10-20mm Sigma wide angle. This paticular photograph was captured at 13mm. Processing was done mostly with Color Efex Pro from NIK Software.

A quick bit of nearby geocaching today. I needed to get out of the office for a few minutes and this place provided a nice way to catch some sun, some geocaching points, and a couple photographs.

If you haven't tried geocaching, I suggest you give it a shot - particularly if you are a photographer. You will find it to be an awesome way to discover new locations for photos and it absolutely provides an extra dose of exercise.

Take a look at the details of this cache by clicking here. This hiding spot is adjacent to one of the runways at Hancock International Airport in Syracuse. I waited around for a few minutes to try to capture this shot with an airplane in the background, but it must be a slow travel day. Plus, I had plenty of work to get back to at the office.

For the photographers, this is a 5-shot HDR composition, captured with the Pentax K-5 and the DA*16-50 lens at 16mm, f11, ISO 100. The shots were pulled together in Photomatix Pro. Additional processing was conducted using NIK Software Define 2.0 and Color Efex Pro 4.0. The final composition was pulled together in Photoshop 5. If you have any questions about how it all came together, feel free to post them here.
